Freeze Protect Season Is Here

November 1, 2011 marks the beginning of our Freeze Protect season and runs through March 31, 2012. Intech Services, Inc. takes great care, through additional packaging and by services offered by our common carriers, to protect our customer’s shipments from freezing. The water-based product lines affected by our Freeze policy are (by prefix): 699N, 850N, 851N, 852N, 855N, 856N, 857N, 857G, 858N, and 953. Our solvent based and powder products do not need to be freeze protected.

Freeze protected Freight shipments in the Northeast, Mid Atlantic, and Canadian regions will ship Monday – Friday. For the remainder of the United States, Freeze protected Freight will ship Monday and Tuesday only. Freeze Protected Ground shipments will ship on Monday and Tuesday. Overnight service is available if receipt of the material is critical.

It is important that, upon receipt of a freeze protected shipment, that the instructions attached to your Bill of Lading and on the container are followed. Intech Services, Inc must be notified of claims within 4 days of the receipt of the shipment. Intech Services will replace any freeze damaged product, except where a customer waives the Freeze Protect Service or fails to notify Intech of the freeze damage within the required timeframe.

Please review the Freeze Protect policy at www.intechservices.com.

Due to price increases for services and packaging materials, our Freeze Protect Fee will increase to $29.00 from $25.00. For Freight Shipments, this is a per pallet charge, for Ground shipments this is a per container charge.

Please share this information with anyone in your shipping, receiving, procurement, or any other divisions that need to be aware of this policy. If you need any additional clarification, please contact us at (302) 366-8530 or review our Freeze Policy at www.intechservices.com.

We appreciate your attention to this matter and, as always, thank you for your business.

Best Regards,

The Intech Team

THICKNESS GAUGES - A MUST FOR THE COATING BUSINESS

As competitive pressures continue to mount, the companies that are thriving today are the companies that are focused on quality and the bottom line. Implementing thickness gauges into your coating process allows you to do both.

Differentiation - Imagine being able to send your customer a report specific to their part with thickness measurements attached. Package up your customer’s product, enclosing with the part a certification of your work. This focus on quality gives you an edge over companies trying to steal your business on price alone, adding value to your service.

Military and Aerospace work requirement – Many jobs in these market segments require verification of the work that you are performing. Fischer thickness gauges are certified by the ASTM standard test methodology allowing you to compete in specification sensitive markets.

Save Money – Implementing thickness measurement into your everyday process will save you material costs. By having your coating operators measure their work you can eliminate excess material costs. Monitoring coating thickness will drive your coaters to better control thickness. If you purchase $10,000 in coatings a year and improve your thickness control by .5 mils you could save $2,552 a year.

Why purchase a thickness gauge from Intech Services - There is an abundance of coating thickness gauges on the market today, developed for a wide variety of industries. Intech evaluated many manufacturers and their thickness gauge solutions until we happened upon Fischer Technologies as a result of a referral from one of our customers who said, “We buy Fischer Products, because they know, understand and have experience working in the Teflon® application environment. They know what we do and they know exactly what equipment we need to make sure we apply Teflon® coatings consistently, as specified.” There’s no guess work here.

Teflon* Spray Training Workshop

Introducing a New Workshop from the Intech Information Institute:
Tuesday, November 15 2011.

VirtualPaint® Training for DuPont Fluoropolymer Liquid Coatings

Intech Services has teamed with the Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) of the University of Northern Iowa to create an innovative liquid spray training workshop geared specifically toward educating industrial fluoropolymer coating applicators.  This one day training course, utilizing the VirtualPaint® training system, will allow attendees to do the following:

  • Learncoating techniques from a specialist and practice on the VirtualPaint® system
  • Get real-time results for transfer efficiency, coating thickness, and liquid waste
  • Refine spray technique such as distance control and triggering on various part geometries
  • Review common coating errors and troubleshooting
  • Increase understandingof the DuPont Teflon® Industrial Finishes product line
  • Learn about DuPont recommended procedures for material storage, preparation, and handling, quality assurance, and testing.

The VirtualPaint® system utilizes actual spray equipment on a virtual surface that calculates application performance in real time.  This class is targeted for both the experienced and new paint applicator, shop supervisor or anyone involved in the application process.

One way to counter the rising costs of coatings is to invest in yourpeople and improve their application technique so that product waste and rework situations are minimized.

Class size is limited to twelve attendees.  As of today, we only have 6 seats available, so register today.

GEN X Release Dates

As you know DuPont committed to no longer make, use, or buy PFOA by 2015 or earlier if possible.  DuPont’s investment in its Industrial Fluoropolymer business is bringing you products manufactured without PFOA much earlier than 2015.  DuPont’s GenX technology is already being sold exclusively for their industrial specialty systems products and will be rolling out in more products this year.
While competitors continue to experience raw material supply issues, raise prices, and focus the majority of their efforts overseas, DuPont is focusing on moving their industrial product line to their patented GenX technology for North America.
DuPont’s new GenX polymerization technology is a more sustainable solution that is comprised of a new processing aid with a favorable toxicological profile and very rapid bio-elimination, combined with unique environmental exposure control technologies that reduce the potential for environmental release and exposure.  DuPont has received appropriate regulatory approvals to make and use our new polymerization technology.  This enables DuPont and our customers to continue to meet exacting end-use requirements.
Based on internal testing, DuPont expects that the new products can be used as replacements for the historical products with minimal processing adjustments.
As always, thank you for your continued business with DuPont.   We are pleased to bring you new offerings that meet the sustainability goals of our industry and stakeholders.  We are committed to working closely with you and your customers to develop integrated qualification and commercialization plans for these products.
DuPont plans to release GenX versions of the following products in 2011/2012.  Please contact Chris Dohl at Intech Services with any questions (302-366-8530/chris@intechservices.com)

August Price Update

For all of us, 2011 has turned into a year with many unexpected supply and price challenges.  The global shortage of fluorine-based materials from all manufacturers is well documented.  Our extended purchasing forecasts have shielded the general industrial customer base from many of the finished product shortages, delivery delays, and price increases that could have taken place during the first half of this year.  However, we are in a position where we must announce a price increase effective August 15, 2011.  This increase is relatively minor in scale, but it is a necessary step for us to continue to be able to provide the level of service and delivery necessary to support our customer base.

We go to great lengths to balance our inventory with the critical products that many businesses depend on for their businesses.  With the exception of the ETFE product line, our PFA,FEP, and PTFE based products inventory is stronger than ever.  We are still shipping next day on the majority of these products.  Continued supply of these products is very stable and we don’t anticipate any issues with these products moving forward.  You can be confident that DuPont and Intech are committed to providing a consistent supply of high quality products to the Industrial Finishes segments.

To view the price list, simply sign in to your customer portal and click on the "Intech Price List & Policies" folder.  If you have not created your personalized portal, it only takes a few minutes to register.  We will continue to utiize the customer portals, so please make sure you are registererd.  You may also contact our office if you need a copy e-mailed to you.

On a related note, we have received several new commercially available Gen X products from DuPont this year, with more product lines set to transition during the remainder of 2011.  The initial response to the application and performance of these Gen X products has been very positive.   We appreciate DuPont’s investment in R&D resources to create these EPA compliant coatings.  It is clearly a sign of their long term value and support of the North American industrial markets.  We will be sending out an Intech Insider in the coming months that describes the Gen X product launch in more detail.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any specific questions or concerns.  As always, we thank you for your continued utilization of DuPont Teflon* coatings.

ETFE Sold out for 2011

Many of you have heard about the constrained supply of Fluoropolymers around the globe.  The ETFE  shortage was not created because of a global shortage on materials, but as a direct result of the horrific Tsunami in Japan.

It is with regret that I am required to inform you that the ETFE products that we distribute for DuPont are sold out for the rest of 2011.  These products include:
  • 532-6200
  • 532-6210
  • 532-6118
  • 532-6310
  • 532-6314
  • 532-6405
  • 532-6412

If you have open orders with Intech, they will be filled.  We cannot accept any additional orders in 2011.  If supply of these products loosens up and we are allocated more material we will notify you at this time.

It is very important that you understand that this does not indicate problems for any of our other 100 coatings in PFA, FEP, and PTFE forms.  These products supply chains are very strong and we do not anticipate any supply issues with these products moving forward.

We encourage anyone with needs for ETFE to call us about potential replacement coatings for any of your ongoing jobs.

Our apologies for this difficult news.

New Roller Equipment for Teflon* Coatings

Two years ago, Intech Services developed a custom designed and manufactured rolling machine built to roll your Teflon* coatings properly every time.

In response to customer input resulting from their field experience with the equipment, Intech introduces Roller II; designed among other things, to to be used for a wide range of manufacturer specifications.

New Roller II Features:

Flexibility: Set speeds as specified by a coating manufacturers for any RPM between between 20 and 60 RPM
Ease of Use: Set the rolling time for any time up to 1 hour - after time has expired, roller automatically turns off
Extended Usage: For other, non Teflon* coating materials, the roller has an "over ride switch"  - rolls until turned off manually

New Roller II Includes Original Standard Features

        - Specifically designed to meet DuPont product specifications
        - Developed for Teflon* coatings contained in 1 gal. cans, 1 gal. jugs and 5 gal. pails - One machine for all sizes.
        - Variable speed selection for each size
        - Made for industrial environment
        - Solid steel bars, cast in urethane and precision ground
        - Gloss white, high quality reinforced fiberglass base with wide footprint for stability during operation
        - 120 V, 60 Htz
        - All parts are line replaceable
        - One year warranty on all parts and labor

It is recommended that Teflon* Coatings be mixed by rolling the container in which it is delivered before it's first use and the first time the container is opened each day.  It is also recommended that it be rolled several times throughout the day it is being used.  This will contribute to consistent quality of application throughout the product's shelf life.

First mixing should be accomplished on a roller system at 30 RPM for 30 minutes.  Mixing during the day for 10 minutes each time at 30 RPM is sufficient.

Use of impeller type mixers could result in a "sheer" affect on the floropolymers in the liquid, adversely impacting the quality of the coating.  Automated shakers and tumblers are not recommended, as their motion is too aggressive and can cause the liquid to separate potentially damaging the coating material.

Things are looking up

If the high number of quotes requested from Intech Services’ Industrial Shop Equipment Department is any indication of an improving economy, then “things are looking up!”  Customer’s tell us that they have been putting off any shop equipment purchases for a couple of years, but now they feel comfortable about pulling the trigger on a new Hi Temp Oven, a Paint Spray Booth, maybe a Blast Cabinet.

Some customers are expanding in expectation of an industry up turn, others are responding to newly acquired business, others are replacing worn, tired, inefficient equipment.

Whatever the reason, we have observed a tremendous uptick in interest in the shop equipment that Intech Services provides.  If you are in the market for new equipment, please consider Intech Services.  Here is a list of items we have sold to coating companies:
  • High temperature batch ovens
  • Table top lab oven
  • Paint spray booth
  • Blast equipment,
  • Thickness gauges
  • Thermocouples
  • Viscosity cups
We are very pleased with the service and support of manufacturers we represent  The following is a quote from the general manager of a coating company who recently purchased a Precision Quincy oven through Intech Services:
Every expectation has been reached, and more.  The oven reaches 720F in 7 minutes – we were expecting it would take 30 minutes.
Everything from the buying process, to installation, to usage has gone seamlessly!

Call Intech for a competitive quote for the best equipment, manufactured by qualified companies, for the very specific needs of an industrial coater.

To expand your knowledge and understanding of the DuPont Teflon® coating line, consider attending our next I³ Teflon® Products Training Seminar scheduled for June 2011.
