Update on the New ETFE Coatings

As many of you are aware, DuPont introduced a new line of ETFE products  at the end of 2012.  The new powder primer and topcoat system (532-6405 and 532-6410) are designed to provide application and  processing improvements, while continuing to provide outstanding chemical resistance and durability.

We wanted to share some of the observations and findings we have had in the first six months of this product introduction.  We have been working hard to Increase the visibility and awareness of the benefits of the ETFE products, and appreciate the feedback that many of you have provided.  Here are some of the things we have learned:

DuPont primers are superior to ECTFE primer – Both the liquid and powder primer (699G-129 and 532-6405) provide tenacious substrate and inter-coat adhesion.  We have had many customers tell us that they have switched jobs to ETFE because of peeling issues with the ECTFE primer
Great application of topcoat – The 532-6410 really applies great – thick film builds per coat, as well as the ability to achieve very thick total film thickness.   One customer went over 100 mils!
Topcoat great for thin film – even though the coatings build well, they are great for coatings less than 10 mils.  In fact, you can probably eliminate a spray and bake step by using these new coatings.

Sales data is very helpful – the new product sales sheets are great to use with customers, engineers, and specifiers.  The document describes the features and benefits of the ETFE product technology, as well as superiority to ECTFE.  The application information remains in a separate Fact Sheet for coaters.
Processing improvements – We discovered that there were some large particles in the material.  While these could be screened out prior to spray application, DuPont has added another screening step to the manufacturing process to alleviate this issue.
Don't forget existing coatings – The traditional ETFE products are all still available.  The 532-6200 white remains still popular for dental and pharmaceutical applications.

We need your help! - We want to talk to engineers and specifies and educate them about new DuPont coating solutions.  Please help us by providing us names of people who you think would like to learn about how the DuPont coatings may benefit their company.  Your referrals will help generate new business for your company!

Also, we are also going to be doing end user outreach telemarketing and e-marketing campaigns to equipment manufacturers in targeted segments.  Please give us ideas of where you think ETFE has value.  For example, end uses like centrifuge baskets, agitators, strainers, etc.  Once we compile a list, we will research manufacturers in each segment and start our outreach campaign.

Stay tuned for more product and market updates!
