More than 10 million U.S. workers have lost part of their hearing, while 30 million more are at risk. Is your shop providing the necessary noise protection workers need?
OSHA's program to reduce this risk includes the following components:
- Noise Monitoring- determines noise level in the workplace
- Audiometric Testing- done for new employees within six months of employment
- Hearing Protection- if noise reaches or exceeds 85dBA required to have suitable hearing protection
- Training- on the effects of noise exposure; use, selection and proper fitting of hearing protection; and audiometric testing procedures
- Recordkeeping- of noise exposure levels and audiometric testing
More information about 29 CFR 1910.95 is available at OSHA's website.
