Coverall Selection: Size

Applying DuPont™Teflon®industrial coatings is not always the cleanest job. It also can be dangerous, with hazardous substances in the air that should not be breathed in or allowed to come in contact with the skin or clothes. Teflon® coating applicators are exposed to chemicals that could potentially harm the body, as well as ruin any work clothes they come in contact with. Shop workers need coveralls and other personal protective equipment to keep safe and clean from overspray, dry particulates, and liquid splashes. Three important factors to consider when choosing coveralls are style, size, and chemical protection. This article will discuss size.

Size is a very important factor to consider when choosing coveralls. They should be very loose-fitting so they do not restrict any movement. However, if they are too loose, you run the risk of getting them caught on equipment, which is very dangerous. The sizing chart below recommends sizes based on the wearer’s height and weight:

Coveralls are important in the industrial coating shop environment because they add another layer of protection against the hazardous materials that must be handled carefully every day when spraying DuPont™ Teflon® industrial coatings. Wearing coveralls, gloves, respirators, safety glasses, and any other protective garments will help make your shop a much safer workplace.

TruPak Powder Coatings: 6000 Series Epoxy/Polyester Hybrid Systems

In a partnership with TCI powder coatings, Intech is now offering more than 300 of the most popular TCI powder coatings in 1, 3, 5, and 10 pound boxes through a program called TruPak.  These products come from TCI's extensive portfolio and are available in a variety of textures and effects that meet the quality demands that you would expect from a powder coating supplier. There are several powder coating series offered through the TruPak program, and this article focuses on 6000 Series Epoxy/Polyester Hybrid Systems.

6000 SeriesEpoxy/Polyester Hybrid Systems are available in smooth and textured finishes and have great electrostatic properties. A good surface flow can be achieved over a wide range of film thicknesses and 6000 Series powders have excellent flexibility and durability. They have a broad formulating range and can be used for decorative or functional applications. Products in this series will rapidly lose gloss and will chalk when exposed to sunlight, so they are best when used for indoor applications. Applications include business machines, electrical enclosures, fire extinguishers, garden tools, hospital equipment, light fixtures, office furniture, oil filters, power tools, shelving, tool boxes, and under-hood automotive parts.

Community Service Spotlight: Hope Tote Collection

Intech Services has developed a community reinvestment team which is tasked with how we as a company can give back to the community. For the Easter holiday, Intech collected hygiene products for the Hope Tote program through the Sunday Breakfast Mission. Hope Totes are bags filled with hygiene products such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and other toiletries that are given to overnight guests at the homeless shelter. These products, though we may take them for granted, can be a huge help for people who cannot afford them.

Properties of Teflon: Nonstick

DuPont Teflon® industrial coatings are highly durable and long lasting performance coatings that have a distinct application process and qualities that offer solutions in a variety of industrial markets.   This series of blogs will highlight one of these inherent properties of Teflon®  coatings and how these properties can solve a variety of problems.

Nonstick: Very few solid substances will permanently adhere to a DuPont™ Teflon® industrial coating. While tacky materials may show some adhesion, almost all substances release easily. Teflon® coatings’ nonstick properties greatly reduce sliding wear and provide excellent release. Anti-adhesion is especially important in the food processing and plastic molding industries because the molds used in these environments must have excellent release or else a significant amount of material will be left behind in the mold. PTFE, PFA, and FEP have the best nonstick qualities.

Tony's Recipe of the Month: Chili

Tony Abato, our VP of Sales here at Intech Services, and an amazing Italian chef, will be sharing one of his delicious recipes every month. Trust us, you don't want to miss out on what Tony's cooking!

Chili

Ingredients:
2 medium yellow onions
1/2 green bell pepper - diced
1/2 yellow bell pepper - diced
1 pound lean ground beef
2-3 tbs. chili pepper
1/2 bottle of beer (not light beer)
(2) 35 oz. cans whole peeled Roma (pear-shaped) tomatoes
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
2-3 baking potatoes
1 big can red kidney beans

Toppings:
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Diced red onion
Sour cream

Preparation:

Wash, de-stem, and clean out the insides of the peppers. Dice them into very small pieces. Cut yellow onions in half and then dice into 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch pieces. Cut off the hard, often discolored stem end of each tomato and discard. Cut the tomato in half lengthwise, scrape the core off the insides, and discard. Take tomato halves, cut into strips lengthwise, and dice into 1/4 inch pieces. Put diced tomatoes and juice from the can in a bowl and save.

Brown the meat in your big Teflon® coated frying pan. Don't overfill the pan and the meat will cook evenly. If you're doing a lot of meat, do it in batches. When the meat begins to color up, stir in the peppers and onions, letting it all cook together. Stir in pepper and chili powder. When the meat is browned, stir the beer in and let it simmer off, almost completely.

Transfer meat to a big Teflon® coated pot. Heat up to medium heat and stir in the tomatoes. When it begins to boil, put it on low to slowly simmer, keeping the lid off. Let it cook until you are close to the consistency you want.

While the chili simmers, peel potatoes and cut into pieces about the size of your thumb. Boil the potatoes in salted water for a couple minutes (not all the way through) just to get them started, then use a slotted spoon to transfer them to the chili.

Add some crushed red pepper, but don't go crazy - this stuff goes a long way. You can always add a little more, but it's tough to go backwards and make chili less spicy. Stir it in, let the spice cook in for a couple minutes, and give it a taste. Take a potato out, let it cool down a little, and taste. When the potatoes are soft, the chili is finished. Taste for spice.

Drain juice out of kidney bean can unless you need the liquid for the chili because it has gotten too thick. Stir the beans into the chili, put the lid on the pot, and take it off the burner. The beans will warm up in the chili, but they won't overcook. The potatoes should be just soft enough but not mushy, the beans will have good texture and not split or fall apart, and the chili itself will have the right liquid content with the right spice.

Teflon Technical FAQ: Fish Eyes

Every day at Intech we receive requests for technical help with DuPont Teflon® industrial coatings.  If you have a technical question, please feel free to call and speak to one of our technical sales representatives.  Once a month, we post a frequently asked question here on our blog.

Question: There are small, round, crater-like holes in the finished coating. What should I do?

Answer: This is what we call fish eyes, and it’s a result from contaminants in the coating. They could come from improper surface preparation of the substrate, from the air, or the air line for the spray gun. Make sure the spray area and substrate are clean and contaminant-free.

If you need more help, call us at 302-366-8530.
