Weight Filled Containers with Calculated Coverage

Did you know that DuPont changed their method of filling containers of DuPont™ Teflon® coatingWith the conversion of the coatings to include the Gen X product technology, DuPont has moved to a standardized global container that is filled by weight, as opposed to being filled to a certain point in the container.  This new process measures the weight of each container in kilograms and ensures that every container has exactly the right amount of coating.  With the old system of filling containers, water based coatings would “foam” during the filling process, which could potentially cause a jug to be short-filled.  These problems will be eliminated and you can have confidence that your can or jug contains an accurate amount of material.

Each type of Teflon® coating contains a unique percentage of solids. Based on the individual solids weight, the containers are filled accordingly.  For example, a container of 954G-303 will look like it is less full than a container of 420G-703 because of the difference in solids.

If you have any other questions or concerns in regards to your Teflon® coating order, please contact us at 302-366-8530 or visit us at Intech Services.  We are here to help with any and all of your industrial coating needs.

Properties of Teflon: FDA Conforming

DuPont Teflon® industrial coatings are highly durable and long lasting performance coatings that have a distinct application process and qualities that offer solutions in a variety of industrial markets.   This series of blogs will highlight one of these inherent properties of Teflon®  coatings and how these properties can solve a variety of problems.

FDA Conforming: Many DuPont™ Teflon® industrial coatings are approved for food contact by the Food and Drug Administration. These specific designated Teflon® coatings can be used for direct food contact according to the regulations of 21CFR. Check a coating’s fact sheet to see if it is FDA compliant. All Teflon® coating families have FDA conforming options, but in situations that require a primer and topcoat, both coatings require FDA conformance.

Coverall Selection: Chemical Protection

Applying DuPont™Teflon®industrial coatings is not always the cleanest job. It also can be dangerous, with hazardous substances in the air that should not be breathed in or allowed to come in contact with the skin or clothes. Teflon® coating applicators are exposed to chemicals that could potentially harm the body, as well as ruin any work clothes they come in contact with. Shop workers need coveralls and other personal protective equipment to keep safe and clean from overspray, dry particulates, and liquid splashes. Three important factors to consider when choosing coveralls are style, size, and chemical protection. This article will discuss chemical protection.

When choosing coveralls, it is important to figure out which coveralls will resist the chemicals you are exposed to during the work day. They must resist permeation, degradation, and penetration to be used when applying DuPont Teflon® industrial coatings. Permeation is the dissolving of molecules through the material, which would allow chemicals to touch the skin. Degradation is when the material physically changes due to chemical exposure or rough use. Penetration refers to chemicals getting under the garment through the zipper, seams, or rips in the material. Coveralls are designed to protect against harmful substances, so the material must overcome all of these factors.

Coveralls are important in the industrial coating shop environment because they add another layer of protection against the hazardous materials that must be handled carefully every day when spraying DuPont™ Teflon® industrial coatings. Wearing coveralls, gloves, respirators, safety glasses, and any other protective garments will help make your shop a much safer workplace.

When spraying DuPont™ Teflon® industrial coatings, it is important to wear coveralls to keep back splatter from ruining your clothes. Coveralls come in a variety of styles and protect from different hazards, so make sure you choose the right kind for your shop. Options include, but are not limited to, elastic around the wrists and ankles, elastic hoods, and booties to cover your shoes. Think about your shop needs to decide if any additional features are necessary, or if a more standard style with open wrists and ankles will be more functional and cost effective.

Tony's Recipe of the Month: Insalate Caprese

Tony Abato, our VP of Sales here at Intech Services, and an amazing Italian chef, will be sharing one of his delicious recipes every month. Trust us, you don't want to miss out on what Tony's cooking!

Insalate Caprese

Ingredients:
Tomatoes - fresh, ripe, thin skinned (like Beefsteak tomatoes)
Mozzarella - handmade, packed in water
Extra virgin olive oil
Salt - to taste
Pepper - ground, to taste

For those who like to try something different:
Basil - fresh, de-stemmed whole leaves or chopped in long pieces
Parsley - fresh, de-stemmed, and chopped fine
Red wine vinegar - couple tablespoons, just a little to taste
Onions - big hunks

Preparation:

Cut the tomatoes in hunks, uneven, irregular. Tear the mozzarella in pieces, big and small. Put the tomatoes and mozzarella in a big serving bowl. Add the oil, salt, and pepper, and gently stir everything around. Now add the basil, parsley, red wine, or onions if you want.

Let it sit out for an hour or so, covered in plastic wrap. Stir it or shake it every once in a while. Insalate Caprese goes great with fresh Italian bread.

Keep checking the blog to see Tony's Recipe of the Month.  Did you try this recipe?  Let us know what you thought of it or if you have questions for the chef, post them below!
