Properties of Teflon: Heat Resistance
DuPont™ Teflon® industrial coatings are highly durable and long lasting performance coatings that have a distinct application process and qualities that offer solutions in a variety of industrial markets. This series of blogs will highlight one of these inherent properties of Teflon® coatings and how these properties can solve a variety of problems.
Heat
Resistance: DuPont™
Teflon® industrial coatings can operate continuously at temperatures up to 500°F
and can be used up to 550°F intermittently with adequate ventilation. The
thermal stability of the coatings means that they can be used in high heat
environments without losing or affecting any other properties. High temperature
resistance is a significant concern in the food industry because food is
processed at a very high temperature. PTFE and PFA have the highest in-use temperatures, but it is not
recommended to push the coatings past their maximum temperatures because they
will degrade and break down.
